It is not really the question from which we went on our documentary visit, but I confess that we would not have bothered at all to find out... Thursday, November 27, was the first day of winter. The temperature dropped below 0 degrees and the water froze, but this did not prevent us from starting again in our adventure, hoping to acquire that knowledge that will open us in the future new windows in the great universe surrounding us . We went to Măgurele, a small town near Bucharest, a place built in order to gather all the genius minds. Here we visited Horia Hulubei National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering, ELI-NP | Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics (which is going to be the most advanced research facility in the world focusing on the study of photonuclear physics and its applications, comprising a very high intensity laser of two 10PW ultra-short pulse lasers and the most brilliant tunable gamma-ray beam) as well as the Institute of Spatial Sciences. It was an intense day, with lots of information that stimulated us intellectually and stirred up questions and controversies in our minds. You will not believe, but we have even found that alchemy is not even a fantasy, and the energy from a particle accelerator can turn the lead into gold. How does a camera with a thermal visor or a particle accelerator work? What is a Tandem accelerator or how gamma systems work. What is a clean room, even if it does not look like mine? Or how does the laser interact with matter? Did not let the photomultipliers with silicon and how does a CELESTRON telescope work? Perhaps virtual reality can effectively replace current reality and how far the isotopes treatments will be in treating cancer and ... many more. But because a picture says more than a thousand words, we leave you in the company of the pictures taken on this occasion. Try to reflect on the power and benefits of the science. And that's not a story ... Check more pictures on the online album hereToday we had beautiful experiences (experiments) at the Romanian Science Center in Bucharest. For EDINN volunteers, it was a journey into the future, for the accompanying teachers, one in the past (in childhood). For all, however, the laws of science have revealed their mysteries by giving a new meaning to the term "miracle". The Romanian team started the research activities with a visit to the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Science and Technology from Valahia University of Targoviste (ICSTM - http://www.icstm.ro/content/About), by courtesy of the principal Mrs Cristiana Rădulescu. The researcher - Mr. Alin Bucurică guided us through the Institute laboratories, explaining the phenomena studied there and giving us some practical demonstrations. The EDINN project volunteers enjoyed seeing how a mini robot moves elements into a fluid (which may be the space of a biological cell), and they understand how the sciences combine their forces to meet a human need. Also, sample preparation, microscopic scanning, photochemical cell production, testing and optimization are just a few of the phenomena observed.

Astronomical and planetary observers, astronomical institutions, research institutions, astronomy associations and clubs, education and science organisations, amateur astronomers, young astronomy enthusiasts, publishers, telescopes and educational products, invited from the diaspora and abroad, were present. It was an excellent opportunity for EDINN volunteers to start researching here, experimenting, observing different astronomical phenomena, and discussing with personalities present at the event. |
